One of the many highlights of the Emerging Technology conference was the Wednesday evening performance of Zoe Keating: “Using a 17th Century Instrument to Create the Music of the 21st Century.”
Zoe uses a cello and a laptop to make beautiful multilayered music. She plays with herself. It’s loopy. Very cool.
Excuse the rough camera work up front – it was shot on a tiny Flip camera – and it gets much better a couple minutes in when I get to the closeups.
This is great! Eveerything I like about “classical” music. When I zone out on my guitar/banjo my wife says I am “playing with myself”, too. And it feels almost as good, sometimes better.
Brian, if you recorded this yourself on a flip camera, I can’t imagine how good it was in real time. Can’t stop watching it. Thank you!
I have a sudden urge to go play my 12 string for an hour or so.
Thanks for posting this video! Nicely done. I agree, her performance really was one of the highlights of the show. The mashup with the laser imagery added another, unexpected layer to the experience.
